WVRHEP/AHEC online service learning modules
You are about to participate in a service learning project in the West Virginia
Rural Health Education Partnerships Program (WVRHEP) or West Virginia Area Health Education Centers Program (AHEC). Service Learning is defined as a structured learning experience
which combines community service with preparation and reflection. Students
participating in service-learning activities are not only expected to provide
direct community service but also to learn about the context in which the
service is provided, and to understand the connection between the service
and their academic course work. Service learning experiences are: developed
in collaboration with the community, address community needs and build on
community strengths and assets, enhance the standard curriculum by extending
learning beyond the lecture hall, allow students to apply what they are learning
in real world situations, provide time for reflection, leadership development
and discussion.
These modules are set up to prepare you to understand the importance of service learning and its impact on you as a learner and the community where the project occurs. The modules cover what is expected of you with the project, the Healthy people 2010 objectives that are linked to this project, learning outcomes and assignment questions you will choose to learn more about with the project.
