Outreach/Curriculum Committee Meeting

November 18, 2002

Meeting Minutes

In Attendance:  April Vestal, Dick Meckstroth, Shannon Bell, Bob Foster, Carla See, Patti Crawford, Ralph Utzman, Lynne Sandy, Kathryn Greenlief, Anna Reno, Cathy Humphrey

April went over the minutes from the November 1 conference call. (These minutes are posted to the website).

Shannon discussed the HP 2010 workgroup and incorporation of objectives into Tracker reporting of community service learning projects.

Dr. Meckstroth said that he felt like there are objectives, but no plan to meet those.  What will we know when we finish these reports?

Patti commented that HP2010 is not an evaluator of whether a program works or not.  Carla said that HP2010 was the "big picture", but that the decision about what works in a community should be left to the community.  What RHEP is doing is what really needs to be done.  No one else is using this document to do what we are doing, and this is really sad.  If we are able to be successful with this, then we should share this with others so that they do the same.  Lynne said that accountability and measurable outcomes will be what is important.  This is what the AHEC teams will be trying to do.  Tracking is sometimes difficult, but necessary.  This is what grant funders and federal agencies want to see.  Carla commented that funding is tied to showing what has been accomplished in nearly every program.

Bob said that we'd like to show the Legislature what we've accomplished.

April reminded committee members of their assignments for the Visions working document.  Committee members were urged to have discussions and develop a statement for their recommendation for incorporation into the Visions document prior to the next meeting in March 03.

April also asked for members from the COCC to bring the assignments up at other committee meetings.  Ralph and Patti said they would discuss this at the Schools committee meeting.  Kathryn agreed to bring this up at the SC meeting, April will be discussing during the Advisory Panel Meeting

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
