"Training Teachers on School Health Emergencies" reviewed and revised by Carla See.  She is          currently revising the module and will report at the September 14, 2009 meeting

Refining the Process

In developing these modules, we are aware that they may need to be discipline specific.  We need to look at creating objectives for the roles of each discipline.  We also know how valuable service-learning or community service is to the communities, but we need to show the value to the students.  We need to show them how they made a difference, and need to develop a way to communicate success of the modules.  We also need to make the modules user friendly to the coordinators and students.

Discussion as to how we make the modules user friendly?

1.       We need to have more variety of projects that the coordinator and/or students can utilize.

Coordinators attending the meeting stated that they are working with Kim Colebank the Director of the WVU Center for Civic Engagement on how to prepare service-learning projects and how to prepare the sites that will host the students during the project.

2.       Offer students that have made their rotation selections a way to view projects sites offer as service learning projects and the service-learning library.

Ideally, students would look at the library and/or the projects offered prior to their rotation.  This would help them with service-learning ideas while on their rotation and to discuss possible service-learning ideas with their coordinators.

3.       A way for the schools to present during orientations what Service-Learning is in the WVRHEP/AHEC program.
