Minutes

WVRHEP Evaluation Committee

March 10, 2008

Members Present:  Charissa Davis, Sharon Giles, Kathryn Greenlief, Jodie Jackson (Chair), Ken Shannon

Jodie Jackson reported that the Student Evaluation of Rural Field Experience (SERFE) response rate for the time period, 1/1/01 – 12/31/07 was 82%.  Last year (2006) the response rate was 79% so this was a significant improvement.

Jodie also reported that SERFE open-ended comments and bar charts should be emailed this week.

Ken Shannon gave an overview of the objectives of the physician survey and Jodie reported that the physician surveyed consisted of all physicians who graduated between 1990 and 2004 and were currently in practice in WV.  This research group consisted of 1,046 physicians.  This number will decrease as we find out that they are a) still in residency, b) not currently engaged in patient care, c) do not want to participate, d) practicing out of state, or e) can’t be located.  The eight “groups” represented in the survey are as follows:

1. Rural, Primary Care, WV-educated

2. Rural, Primary Care, not WV-educated

3. Rural, specialist, WV-educated

4. Rural, specialist, not WV-educated

5. Urban, Primary Care, WV-educated

6. Urban, Primary Care, not WV-educated

7. Urban, specialist, WV-educated

8. Urban, specialist, not WV-educated

The highest percentage response rate, thus far, is from the rural, primary care doctors and the lowest is from the rural and urban, WV-educated specialists.  A second mailing went out to non-responders and phone calls are being made to non-responders.  Eventually, a third mailing will go out to non-responders.  A report on this survey will be part of the PERD report.

Respectfully submitted by Jodie Jackson.
