Unfinished Business

September Conference at WVSOM - April announced that the Helen Baker wished to convey that the day-long conference at WVSOM planned for September 30, 2006 was moving forward and that a WVSOM committee had met on Thursday of last week.  Once the objectives are received for the conference, April will send a letter of invitation to the RHEP consortia.  The focus of the conference will be communication skills/teaching skills.

Field Faculty Survey - The committee reviewed preliminary results of the field faculty survey which included a total of 34 responses.  The survey was conducted this year for the first time using the SOLE surveys link which enables the survey to be emailed to individuals and completed via the internet.  Responses are tabulated automatically, making it a very good way to have results almost immediately.  The committee agreed that efforts should be made to continue to ask field faculty to fill out the survey.  April indicated that she sent the survey via email to the WV rural teaching clinician's listserv which includes about 200 individuals.  April also sent an email to site coordinators asking for their help in getting their field faculty to fill out the survey.  Unfortunately, not many field faculty email addresses are available on the Tracker database.  April agreed to ask the site coordinators to make another effort at getting the survey to their field faculty by March 31.  The committee will look at the results at their next meeting.

Meeting with WVU School Representatives on IDS sessions in January - Dan and Rosie reported that the meeting went very well.  Specific comments and information about the meeting are in the January 23, 2006 committee minutes.  Some of the themes that came from this meeting were that perhaps IDS should be conducted once per month and based on a specific statewide theme or issue.  There were some concerns from school representatives about IDS and the quality of IDS sessions.  Dan said that a meeting with WVSOM representative was scheduled for Monday, February 20, 2006 at Embassy Suites from 4:30 - 6:00 PM, just before the Annual Awards Dinner, to discuss their concerns.  Dan has also emailed JoAnn Raines about the possibility of meeting with their clinical staff at Marshall on a date they choose.  They had hoped this meeting would happen before February 20, but has not been scheduled to date.  Once feedback from all schools have been received, the committee will need to make a recommendation to the Strategic Planning Workgroup regarding policy implications and changes for IDS and service-learning components of WVRHEP.

New Business

2007 Conference Dates/Location - April agreed to put together a list of locations for the committee to look at for the conference at the next committee meeting.  The committee agreed it would be good to wait until we see more responses to the survey before determining the best location and topics for the conference. At this point it looks as though a one-day conference from 8AM - 4PM would work best.

Results of survey - RHEP/AHEC January Information Session - April passed out results of the evaluation given to students who attended the information session on WVRHEP/WVAHEC in Morgantown on January 24, 2006.  There were 220 responses to the evaluation.  Feedback of the session was very good overall.  In the interest of time, April asked the committee to look over the survey and provide any feedback by email.  She also asked what the committee would like to do with the survey results?  Should these be sent to school representatives or simply used to improve next year's session?

Next meeting date - The next meeting of the committee will be held Thursday, April 20 from 10AM - 4PM in the Nursing Conference Room.

The committee thanked Darshana for her hospitality and for allowing them to have their regular meeting in her home.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
